Wrapping Things Up

Well today is our last day in Peru and we have the day off to pack, which I've mostly had done since Tuesday. So instead I'll catch you all up on my last week here. 

Sunday we went to mass at San Jacinto and then had lunch with padre. After we went to the market at Catacaos again and got some final things!

 Sunday night we had a birthday party for the mom of our Marquette family, Erika. We got her a cake and ice cream and had a good time!

Monday we had a day of clinicals. In the morning I went on home visits for the last time with Ashley and Yaqui. And in the afternoon I went with Abby to ROPA. Which is where you drive through a village and yell "ropa a la capilla" from the back of a truck and the women come running and then at the church we dump all the clothes on tarps and the women come in and can take 5 pieces of clothing. It definitely gives me a new outlook on shopping and having to try things on!

Tuesday we had our big final projects in the afternoon that we've been spending weeks working on. It was a 20 page paper and 30 minutes powerpoint presentation, so we were all relieved when that was over. Before that in the morning though we went back to Vida Nueva and played FUTBOL! We had an awesome time as usual and am going to miss those guys!

Wednesday we took the new girls around with us to clinicals and were showing them the ropes. In the morning we went to hospice, nothing new. In the afternoon I went with Abby to the nursing home and took blood pressures for two hours. FUN FUN! After mass we had our last fiesta!!

Yesterday we got to spend the whole day doing social work. So in the morning Anne and I went to deliver boxes from families in Oklahoma to the families here. It was so awesome to see how excited the families were to get the boxes and to see what things they had been sent!

 In the afternoon Anne, Erin, Krysti, and I went to deliver food packages to families in the villages. They get a big bag of rice, beans, corn, oatmeal, pasta, oil, etc. The families use this to feed their families, and what they have left or won't use they sell to make some money for things they need.

 Last night after dinner we had a thank you ice cream party for the staff. It has been a great month here and I'm definitely ready to get home, but I will miss many of the staff members and can't wait to come back!

Well guys my flight leaves Piura tonight at 7:40 so we'll be leaving the parish around 6. Then we leave Lima at midnight and should be in Chicago tomorrow around noon. Talk to you when I get state side!! Ciao.
